SAMPLE REPORTING LANGUAGE

 

For a Positive Result:

A positive ELISA result is considered presumptive evidence of infection by HTLV

-III at some undetermined time in the past. False positive results can occur. If serologic confirmation is desired, suggest ordering "Western Blot Serology."

For a Negative Result:

A negative ELISA result is considered evidence against HTLV-III infection. False negative results can occur.
